William H. Tyers (1870–1924) was an African-American composer, conductor, and arranger, known for his work in ragtime, early jazz, and vaudeville. He also composed "Maori", as referenced here. Tyers was prominent in the Harlem music scene and worked with figures like Bert Williams and George Walker.
