This is a late 19th to early 20th century petite ormolu (gilt metal) trinket or jewelry casket, most likely French or American, in the Rococo Revival or Art Nouveau style. The interior is lined in padded peach silk, a typical detail for jewelry boxes or keepsake containers from the Victorian and Edwardian periods. It does need some assistance standing unless a heavy item is placed in the box. It is very small, about 2.5 inches across and perfect for rings.
